Asimina triloba in February

Asimina is in a dormant state during winter, but when spring approaches one can notice that the buds, that were already visible in the fall get bigger and bigger.

Stem or leaf and flower buds are distinctively different. Stem buds are smooth and close to the stem. Flower buds on the other hand are round, much larger and have a hairy appearance.

Flower buds are marked with red arrows. Yellow arrows point to two leaf or stem buds.
